Caregiver of the Month
From Dan’s desk: Caregiver of the Month
We recently started working with a wonderful young family, with two cute kids. Unfortunately, the mom has ALS and it has proven to be a fairly fast acting case of ALS, with extensive loss of motor control of limbs and speech. For the most part, they have managed things mostly on their own, with the husband working full time outside the house, and of course coming home to much more work managing the household.
Eventually though, that grueling schedule took its toll on the husband. He was hospitalized and endured some pretty invasive procedures to get him back on track. We were called in to provide care 11 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Enter Chrisanna Campbell! She became one of the caregivers and immediately bonded with the family. That was not difficult to do by the way; each of our caregivers have become very attached to this family as a result of how resilient they all have been in spite of the ravages of this terrible disease that has been stealing their mom and spouse over time. But Chrisanna went the extra mile, maybe ten, check it out…
She made the offer, and the parents accepted, to come into town (she lives nearly 40 miles from the client!) on her day off, pick up the two kids and bring them back home with her. Across the street from Chrisanna is a park with batting cages and the kids could play there all day and stay overnight with her, giving the couple some much needed down time. So she essentially took 24 hours of her life and donated it to this family, in addition to gas money and meals. If you were to look up the word “selfless” in the dictionary, Webster could put this story there and the definition could not be more accurately described!
We work in an environment of emotional peaks and valleys every day as we administer care to our clients. If not for the peaks, we could not endure. THANK YOU Chrisanna for providing a “Mt. Everest” style peak; you are the epitome of who we aspire to be every day…the best darn caregivers in west Michigan! Well done Chrisanna!
