Elder Care in Rockford, MI – Celebrating Father’s Day
Father’s Day is coming up and you wonder what you can do to celebrate it. As a child, you gave your father a picture or something small to thank him. Now as an adult, you want to give your elderly father something special. What does one give to their father now that he is in his elder years? There are many things to do to show your deep appreciation.
Thoughtful and useful types of Father’s Day gifts
Take some serious thought about what to get him. Find something that is thoughtful and useful. For fathers who still live in their own home, do something for them that they are unable to do themselves or might be having difficulty with. Services such as a handyman, dog walker, or a landscaper to do things around the house would make life easier for him. Also, you can make “coupon books”–he can use them to ask you to do things for him such as drive him to restaurants, visit more often, and other fun things. It not only shows your creativity, but shows how much you care for his well-being.
Make a delicious meal you know he loves. Think about some of his favorite foods. For example, if he likes to eat pot roast and mashed potatoes with green beans, whip up that kind of a meal for him. Just you two or a couple of other family members present makes things relaxing and it will have your father beaming with joy.
Gadgets and gift baskets are great gifts to give to dad. If he is a writer, buy him a leather journal with a fancy pen. Does he drink coffee? Buy gourmet coffee or a new coffeemaker. Snacks such as assorted candies, nuts, root beer, and even jerky are spectacular ideas to think about.
Gifts of service
You could buy him a service such as one week’s worth of housecleaning or a month’s worth of elder care services if that’s something he’s been thinking about but just hasn’t made the final decision yet. You might be surprised just how much he would enjoy having someone come in and make him a nice meal each day, sit down and play checkers with him, take him fishing, to the library, to the coffee shop to meet with his friends, etc. You would have to know your Dad fairly well to predict what kind of gift he might like.
This June, make the celebration fun, unique, and exciting. You want to show how much you love the man who raised you, so give him something that you would like if you were him. Celebrating Father’s Day for your elderly father can be a great experience to remember.
